Coimbatore: Two youths, including a college student, died after a speeding minitruck collided with a motorcycle they were travelling on in Coimbatore on Sunday evening.
The deceased have been identified as T Manickam, 21, of Amman Nagar at Saravanampatti and S Arunkumar, 19, of Cheran Maa Nagar.
Police said Manickam was a driver while Arunkumar was doing an undergraduate course at a private college in Nava India.
On Sunday evening, the duo went to Kalapatti on a motorcycle to meet a friend. Manickam was riding the bike while Arunkumar was riding pillion on it.
As they were heading towards Saravanampatti, a speeding minitruck coming from the opposite direction collided with the motorcycle on the Kalapatti-Vilankurichi Road. The duo, who were thrown off the motorcycle, sustained severe head injuries. Manickam died on the spot. Arunkumar, who was battling for life, was rushed to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where he died without responding to treatment.
The Kovilpalayam police registered a case against minitruck driver Vijayakumar. After postmortem, the bodies were handed over to their families on Monday afternoon.
