Soha Ali Khan reveals she still gets trolled for her inter-faith wedding with Kunal Kemmu: ‘They ask how many rozas have you kept’

Soha Ali Khan, married to Kunal Kemmu for a decade, reveals she still encounters religious criticism for marrying into a Hindu family and celebrating diverse festivals. Despite this, she focuses on raising her daughter, Inaaya, while also confronting outdated societal expectations about motherhood. Soha recently returned to acting with 'Chhorii 2', showcasing her resilience both on and off-screen.
Soha Ali Khan Defends Saif
Actress Soha Ali Khan, daughter of veteran actress Sharmila Tagore and late cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, tied the knot with actor Kunal Kemmu on 25 January 2015. Even after a decade of being a happily married couple, she revealed that she still faces comments and criticism.
Soha, who comes from a Muslim background, married into a Hindu family, and she recently opened up about how even after 10 years of marriage, this kind of trolling hasn’t disappeared. In an interview with IndianExpress, she revealed how she and her family are often judged just for celebrating festivals or sharing moments from their personal life online.
‘How many rozas have you kept?’
The 'Rang De Basanti' actress explained that although she’s developed a thick skin over time, the type of comments she receives still catch her eye. She said, “It doesn’t bother me. But one thing that amuses me is how when I post something, people start commenting upon my religion. Because I have married into a Hindu family, my mother has a Hindu surname and she married a Muslim person. Usually, if we post something on Diwali, they are like how many rozas have you kept, if we post on Holi, there are comments reading what kind of Muslim you are? It doesn’t bother me, but it is something that I do notice.”

Proud mum of Inaaya, but still facing old-school mindsets
Soha and Kunal welcomed their daughter, Inaaya Naumi Kemmu, in September 2017. The little one has grown up under the public eye and is often seen in adorable family posts shared by her parents. While Soha is a proud mum, she pointed out how outdated beliefs about motherhood still exist—even in modern and well-off families. She shared, “Even today, in affluent families, well-educated families, there is still an expectation that you don’t have a son, there is a feeling that you are incomplete. I have a daughter, I’m very happy, most people around me are very happy. But there is still a sense somewhere that I have disappointed somebody.”
Back on screen with 'Chhorii 2'
On the work front, Soha returned to acting recently with the horror sequel 'Chhorii 2', which premiered on OTT platform on 11 April 2025. The film stars Nushrratt Bharuccha in the lead role, with Soha playing a strong character named Daasi Maa.
