SC refuses to release Ranveer Allahbadia's passport, extends interim protection from arrests

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court refused to release the passport of YouTuber and Podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia after a complaint was filed against him over his controversial remarks in an episode of India's Got Latent.

The Court extended its interim order of granting protection to the podcaster from arrest in the FIRs registered against him in Guwahati, Mumbai, and Jaipur.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta tells the Supreme Court that the investigation will be completed in the case in two weeks.

Meanwhile, Allahbadia in the court undertook to maintain decency in his shows.

Ranveer received harsh backlash for his joke regarding parents and sex while appearing on 'India's Got Latent', hosted by Samay Raina.

On March 7, Allahbadia appeared before the Crime Branch of the Guwahati Police Commissionerate as part of an investigation into the show.

The Guwahati Police filed an FIR on February 10 against several influencers, including Allahbadia, charging them under the Indian Penal Code, Information Technology Act, and Cinematograph Act for promoting obscenity and indecent representation of women.

Although he issued an apology, multiple complaints were registered against him. He was initially barred from creating or uploading content online. The Supreme Court described his remarks as "vulgar" and declared that his "dirty mind" had brought disgrace to society. Recently, though, the court granted him permission to resume his podcast, provided he refrains from mentioning the case in his content.
